DREAM SERIES
A mixed media series that combines photography and digital drawing to showcase the dream jobs kids imagined they would be when they grew up.
This series also showcases that adults can still dream about the jobs they want for themselves and there is no limitation on your imagination or age when you need to stop dreaming.

HEAD SPIN
When you’re a child, anything seems possible and you get to dream of everything you could be. As a child, I can remember dreaming that I was a ballerina dancing on stage in a beautiful tutu with a captivated audience. The idea of being this ballerina kick-started the theme of dreaming, dreaming of what you could be. When you’re a kid, there is no limit to what you can imagine and what seems like endless possibilities. This theme allowed me to remember all the jobs I imagined doing when I was younger and it seemed perfect to do during this time of isolation because you don’t have a lot to do other them think and dream of what you could be doing. This image was created firstly in Photoshop to slightly edit the photography before using Illustrator to draw the ballerina, ribbon and stage lights in an outline style.
BURNING DESIRE
I can still remember watching Fireman Sam as a child and thinking what a hero he was and how cool it would be to be a firefighter. It wasn’t something I dreamed of being but one of my brothers. I imagined my brother racing off out of the firehouse and rushing into a burning building to rescue someone, being a hero. A firefighter fitted within the theme of dreaming because it always seemed like the perfect job for one of them, but it wasn’t something they were interested in doing. The image was first edited in Photoshop before going into Illustrator to add the outline drawings. It worked to have the fire truck on his shoulder and draw the hose around his face.
DREAM BIG
We would watch the Olympic games when I was a kid and it was amazing to see these people getting medals and standing on the podium in front of thousands of people. I wanted to become one of these people and win a gold medal. It was a big dream of mine, so it worked with the theme of dreaming because it takes a talented, well-trained and dedicated athlete to compete in the Olympics. This image was edited in Photoshop to darken the background and then put into Illustrator to start drawing on. The image worked with the Olympic hopeful because of her stance and background space to add a flag and logo.
LOST IN SPACE
When I first heard about the man walking on the moon, I thought I was the coolest thing. He got to wear this cool suit and fly in a rocket surrounded by stars. I remember having glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to the ceiling and dreaming about seeing them up close. Being an astronaut worked with the theme of dreaming because it’s something that was exciting and possible in theory but not in reality. I edited the image in Photoshop to start and removed a piece of his neck scarf before using Illustrator to draw. I decided to make a helmet around his head instead of just drawing an astronaut because I wanted it to show more complexity within the image and this was the perfect image to do this on.
BEYOND CREATION
My sister and I would dress up in our clothes and put on fashion shows. I always thought we were the world’s greatest fashion icons. I would dream of these ‘amazing’ designs and get fabric and create these designs thinking they would be the next big thing. This was definitely a dream because most of the designs were cutting a hole in the centre of the fabric and putting it over my head. This fitted within the theme of dreaming, I think everyone as a kid believes they are going to be fashion icons, but it’s a talent to be about to make it as a fashion designer. This image started with Photoshop editing to darken the background, and then I used Illustrator to draw elements connected to a fashion designer.
